Disaster Recovery (DR)

Now that you have your business continuity plan in place, lets harden your DR.  Disaster recovery is an organization’s method of regaining access and functionality to its IT infrastructure after events like a natural disaster, cyber attack, or even business disruptions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. A variety of disaster recovery (DR) methods can be part of a disaster recovery plan. DR is one aspect of business continuity.

@ltais Solutions will partner with you to develop a robust and agile disaster recovery plan.  There are multiple options for DR:

- Backup's - restore backups after event, cost is minimal, RPO and RTO based on how long backups take to restore.

- Pilot light - used in cloud environments, scripting of resources with tooling such as Terraform needed.  Provision some resources (plumbing - all the services needed to run applications, such as VPC, subnet, accounts, NAT's, firewall, etc).  Once in DR, Terraform scripts executed to scale up.  A bit more expensive than backups, shorter RPO and RTO.

- Warm Standby - a second location with smaller footprint or turned off footprint.  Scale\turn on resources when in DR mode.  RPO and RTO usually smaller than Pilot light, but expensive.

- Hot Site - most expensive option, allowing for near real-time RPO and RTO.
